From Hockey Games to Concert Tours, ADAPTive Provides Sound Worth Cheering For

The DCU Center has been rocking New England crowds for over 40 years. But while fans were cheering in the stands, the venue’s aging sound system was struggling to keep up with the show.

To realize the DCU Center’s audio upgrade, Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) collaborated closely with venue leadership and leading AV specialists. System design was led by WJHW, a firm known for its expertise in large-scale venues, while Ostrow Electric Company and Metropolitan Interactive oversaw the installation. The result is a fully customized audio solution built to meet the venue’s unique architectural and acoustic demands.

The DCU Center needed a sound system that could effortlessly adapt to any event while providing attendees with the highest quality sound experience. To meet the demands of today’s events, the DCU Center needed a system that could be easily and quickly redeployed with minimal manpower.

SOLUTION​

The solution includes six ADAPTive hangs, each configured with six Anna Loudspeakers and three Otto Subwoofers—adding up to 36 Anna and 18 Otto modules. Supplementary QX300 and MK2300 Series loudspeakers were installed to deliver targeted coverage, ensuring uniform sound distribution across all seating zones.

The ADAPTive system delivers comprehensive coverage across the entire seating bowl for large-scale sporting events. Thanks to its flexible configuration, it can also redirect energy to target only lower or mid-level seating without requiring mechanical adjustments to the arrays. This dynamic control minimizes reverb and enhances clarity for smaller events, while maintaining the same signature sound for each audience scenario.

With its ADAPTive sound system now in place, the DCU Center has elevated its audio performance to match the caliber of events it hosts. The system’s flexibility ensures optimal coverage for both large-scale and intimate gatherings, delivering consistent clarity and reduced reverb across all seating zones. Since the installation, fans, event coordinators, and production crews have praised the arena’s sound for its exceptional balance and intelligibility, reinforcing the venue’s status as a premier destination for live entertainment.
