Playa Maya Water Park
An audio system that withstands harsh environmental conditions
In June of 2024, Playa Maya Water Park at Beijing Happy Valley officially opened its doors to the public. The park is a thrilling new destination for locals and tourists, featuring a large wave pool, China’s first white water roller coaster, and 35 water-based attractions. It seamlessly blends elements of ancient Mayan culture with modern water activities, allowing visitors to enjoy exhilarating water experiences while appreciating the unique charm of the ancient Maya civilization.
SUMMARY & CHALLENGE
EZPro, a Chinese AV distributor and solution provider, was tasked with delivering a clear and reliable sound reinforcement system for the nearly 7,000-square-meter wave pool. The sound system needed to support a variety of events, including electronic music parties, live singing and dancing performances, and other shows, ensuring that Playa Maya Water Park would be a place of joy and entertainment.
The large outdoor performance stage needed a sound reinforcement system that delivered high sound pressure levels (SPL) and wide coverage to ensure clarity and intelligibility across the entire audience area. There was a requirement for extremely durable equipment capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions due to the presence of water droplets and high humidity. Installation constraints also occurred due to limited space at the site. The loudspeakers chosen needed to be installed at high positions, requiring a specialized and secure installation method.
SOLUTION
To address the challenges presented, EZPro chose EAW loudspeakers to ensure optimal sound quality and durability.
For the main stage setup, 24x KF210 loudspeakers were installed, with 12 cabinets hung on each side of the stage in single columns. The KF210 line array system is lightweight, compact, and delivers high output. It also features integrated IP55-rated weather protection, making it ideal for demanding outdoor environments. The system’s proprietary 3-point rigging system ensures secure and discreet installation.
To provide deep, powerful bass, 12x SB1000zP subwoofers were stacked in arrays of 6 on each side of the stage. 4x MK5394i loudspeakers were used as movable stage monitors, ensuring performers could clearly hear the audio during performances. An additional 8x MK5394i loudspeakers were installed around the wave pool to serve as fill speakers, providing consistent sound coverage throughout the area.
EAW’s Resolution 2 software was used to design the audio system to achieve uniform SPL coverage, with a minimum SPL of 105 dB Broadband.
The EAW sound reinforcement system not only met the challenges of operating in a harsh water environment but also effectively conveyed the excitement and energy of the venue. The solution was highly praised by both customers and visitors, contributing to the success of Playa Maya Water Park’s opening.
